Timeline
2:30 PM
Baraat
A Baraat is a part of Indian weddings where the groom and his family and guests parade to the ceremony location. Traditionally it is limited to the grooms side, but in modern times (and at our wedding) both sides are welcome to join! The groom will be riding a horse, and accompanied by traditional Indian drummers.
3:45 PM
Dance Performance
Following the Vermala, the Biyani family will perform an Indian dance. Normally family and friends close to the bride and groom would perform at an event called a Sangeet, typically held the night prior to the wedding. Due to COVID regulations it's a difficult to hold a large Sangeet so the Biyani family will perform on the wedding day.
4:00 PM
Vermala (Garland Exchange)
Following the Baraat, there will be a traditional Indian ceremony called Varmala (garland exchange). Historically this was accompanied by a Swayamvar which is an event where a number of suitors try to impress a potential bride. The bride would then choose one suitor by placing a garland around his neck. In modern times, the bride places a garland on the groom to mark her acceptance of him as her husband-to-be. The groom then does the same, depicting his acceptance of the bride as his wife-to-be.
4:15 PM
Appetizers and Down Time
Take a seat, relax, grab some drinks, and definitely eat some food! This time is yours to roam around the property and mingle with guests.
5:00 PM
Ceremony
The ceremony will be officiated by Emily's brother, William Martin. It will be non-denominational, and we'll keep it short and fun!
6:00 PM
Cocktail Hour
Head over to the lovely deck where we'll have plenty of alcohol for you to start the night! There won't be any food as we want you to get nice and hungry for the delicious dinner we have prepared.
7:15 PM
Dinner
We'll be dining in the same area as the ceremony, outdoors and under the beautiful redwoods. The meal will be family style with shared plates brought to each table, and should be an amazing meal!
9:00 PM
Reception
Let's party! For those who want to stay outdoors, there will be plenty of warm firepits and a bar to enjoy. For those who are comfortable moving indoors, we'll have the dance floor open and ready for your worst moves!
